The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) hosted a two-day workshop for the Aerodrome Security Committees (ASCs) of Kisoro, Kasese, and Mbarara to orient them on their roles as key stakeholders in strengthening aviation security, in compliance with national security requirements in the aviation industry.
While officiating the opening ceremony at Lake View Hotel in Mbarara, the Director of Airports and Aviation Security, Eng. Ayub Sooma, stated that aviation security remains one of the National Aviation Security Committee’s highest strategic priorities.
The event, held on 5th and 6th August, was attended by city and district security officials, as well as heads of government security departments and agencies operating at each of the aerodromes.
“It is only through strong collaboration, cooperation, and meaningful engagement that we can advance our common goal of ensuring a secure and efficient national aviation security system. Airport Security Committees (ASCs) continue to play a key role in this endeavor, and UCAA is pleased to partner with airport stakeholders in ensuring the security and safety of our airports,” he said.
The General Manager of Regional Airports, Mr. Sam Wonekha, emphasized the importance of updating the roles and responsibilities of airport security committees in line with international, national, and regional airport requirements.
“Your feedback and critical review will be vital during this workshop to help us improve our security facilitation,” he added.
Ms. Jane Nakimu, UCAA’s Manager for Aviation Security Facilitation, Policy, and Regulation, told participants that Uganda is committed to implementing both international and national security legislation to meet the required standards and recommended practices.
“Through our unified action, shared responsibility, and continued engagement, we can further enhance our collective capacity to uphold the highest standards of aviation security,” she said.
