Police in Wakiso District have arrested three people, including a child’s uncle and father, over the alleged aggravated torture of a 10-year-old boy in Nkoowe Village, Mende Sub-county.
According to police, the disturbing incident came to light on May 7, 2026, at around 10:00am, after authorities received reports that a juvenile was being brutally tortured by his guardians in Kaliiti Parish.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the abuse allegedly began on April 30, 2026, when 30-year-old mechanic Muwanguzi Matovu reportedly accused his brother’s son, who had been living under his care of stealing Shs47,000 from the family home.
Police say the suspect allegedly subjected the child to severe punishment, leaving him with serious injuries on both hands.
Investigators further revealed that the boy was allegedly tied to a window using a rubber string. In an attempt to escape, the child reportedly suffered additional injuries.
The victim was later rescued and rushed to hospital for medical treatment.
Three suspects are currently in police custody, including: Mutantuzi Matovu, the victim’s uncle, Farouk Muwanguzi, the child’s father, and
Rebecca Tusubira, wife to the uncle.
Police strongly condemned the alleged torture of the child and vowed to ensure justice is served.
“We remain committed to pursuing every incident of child torture,” police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said in a statement.
