CRIME: Police in Nateete have arrested a 34-year-old woman accused of brutally torturing a 10-year-old boy in a disturbing incident that unfolded on Eid Day in Wakiso District.
The suspect, identified as Esther Nankunda, was taken into custody following allegations that she inflicted severe injuries on the Primary Four pupil, who had been left in her care by a relative. The incident reportedly occurred in Kanaala Zone, Mutundwe Parish, Bunamwaya Division.
According to preliminary police findings, the woman allegedly punished the child over claims that he had stolen 100,000 Ugandan shillings. At around 5:00 p.m. on March 20, 2026, she is said to have burned the boy’s hands using a heated white polythene bag, leaving him with serious injuries.
Authorities say the child has since been rescued and taken for medical examination as investigations continue into the full circumstances surrounding the assault.
The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to face court proceedings.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Racheal Kawala, condemned the incident, stressing that such acts against children will not be tolerated. “We strongly condemn acts of child abuse and torture and will ensure that justice is served,” she said.
Police have reiterated their commitment to protecting children and urged the public to report any cases of abuse to the nearest authorities.
