After months of fierce competition, the NCBA Uganda Monthly Mug Series reached its thrilling finale over the weekend with the much-anticipated Mug of Mugs event at the Namulonge Golf Club.

The prestigious Mug of Mugs golf tournament concluded with Christopher Magezi emerging as the overall winner with 285 points, followed by Denis Katalihwa as the first runner-up with 286 points, and Allan Akira in third place with 290 points.

In his speech, Christopher Magezi thanked NCBA for sponsoring the tournament and praised the Mugs as a highly competitive and intense event. He attributed his victory to consistency in maintaining a low score.

“I’m very, very happy for having won this, the mug of mugs, because it’s very competitive, and you have to play as many monthly mugs as possible so that you have a good average. You have to maintain a very low score every time you play, even if you don’t win every time you play, but you have to keep those low scores so at the end of the day, you match as a winner,” he said.

Magyezi encouraged fellow golfers to consistently participate in the monthly golf tournaments, emphasizing that it is the key to advancing the game of golf in Uganda.

“I would like to encourage all golfers, please, every month we have a monthly mark come and participate, and not only that, also support NCBA.” Christopher Magezi, the overall winner, said.

He praised NCBA Bank for its support of the game of golf and proposed that next year’s edition commence as early as January to enhance the level of competition. “I’d like to thank NCBA for the support you’ve given to our club. Next year, we should start as early as January, and we compete.” He added

Mark Muyobo, Managing Director of NCBA Uganda, stated during the closing ceremony that golf is deeply rooted in NCBA’s values. He explained that the decision to sponsor the Monthly Mug was aimed at providing golfers with an opportunity to showcase and enhance their skills on the course.

“This is the end of the NCBA mug of mugs. We came here in January to sponsor the monthly mug, where we actually give an opportunity to people to actually come and put their skill on the golf course.” He said.Mr. Muyobo explained that they chose to support golf because of their commitment to growing the sport in Uganda and creating opportunities for people to come together and socialize.

“As NCBA, we believe golf is an opportunity for people of like minds who actually come together and socialize.” And also it’s an opportunity for us to actually expand the game of golf through the kids golf, which was recently renamed from US kids golf to NCBA golf, and also to support the game of golf in Namulonge.” He added.

He further noted that the increasing number of golfers participating in the Monthly Mugs is a clear indication that the sport is deeply rooted in the community. He reaffirmed NCBA’s commitment to returning next year to support the Mug of Mugs golf tournament at Namulonge.

“We have committed that we will be back here to support the monthly mugs and also have the mug of mugs in December. Because, as I said, if you saw we had about more than 120 golfers here in Namulonge, that is almost equivalent to the number of golfers that we have seen in other key golf courses. So that has then given us the satisfaction that the game of golf has actually been embedded in the people who would actually want to play the game of golf.” He added.
