Valley of Destiny Junior School has emerged champion of a schools quadball tournament organized by ELSA Africa, defeating hosts Kololo Senior Secondary School (Kololo SS) in the final to lift the trophy.

The tournament brought together students, teachers and quadball enthusiasts as part of efforts to introduce more children and young people to the sport and provide them with opportunities to discover and develop their sporting talents.Valley of Destiny Junior School put up a strong performance throughout the competition before overcoming Kololo SS in the final to claim the championship trophy.

The tournament also provided a platform for teachers and other stakeholders to discuss the future of quadball in Uganda, with calls for increased technical support for schools and local organizers.

Teachers urged the International Quadball Association to support the development of the sport in Uganda, particularly in coaching, officiating, player development and training on the rules of the game. They said such support would help schools establish sustainable quadball programmes while encouraging more children and young people to take up the sport.

During the tournament, Álvaro Gallego Poeta, a quadball player from the Barcelona Eagles, briefed participants and teachers on some of the new rules introduced under the latest quadball rulebook.

His presentation helped participants understand recent developments in the sport and the importance of ensuring that players, coaches and officials remain familiar with the latest rules as quadball continues to grow internationally. The tournament’s chief guest, Madam Carmen, commended ELSA Africa for organizing the event and creating opportunities for children and young people to participate in sport.

She said initiatives that expose young people to different sporting activities can help them discover their talents, build confidence and develop their abilities.

The tournament comes amid growing efforts to introduce quadball to more schools and communities across Uganda. Organizers and teachers said increased technical support, training and regular competitions will be key to expanding the sport and attracting more young people.
