KAMPALA, Uganda — Karis Medical, an emerging leader in Uganda’s healthcare sector, has officially opened its first Neighbourhood Medical Centre in Kyanja, located at West Mall.

The centre provides outpatient and general medical services, offering community-based care delivered by skilled and compassionate professionals.

“This new facility comes with a state of the art equipment to help us in diagnosis some of the most common and even the rare conditions that our population suffers from. It also comes along with very compassionate team that are every competent and well trained with the highest levels of integrity and excellence and also eternity to provide the highest levels of health care in the region in the space around us. So we come in to bridge the gap between excellent health care and definitely the service that people need. Currently we provide a general medical services, including outpatient consultation. First, laboratory services among others,” said Dr. Solomon Kamugisha, medical director at Karis Medical Centre in Kyanja.

This launch marks the beginning of a nationwide rollout of Karis facilities aimed at enhancing healthcare access across Uganda.

As part of its broader vision, Karis Medical is also developing a flagship 125-bed Karis Hospital in Kasangati, Wakiso district  focused on women and children’s healthcare, alongside a Christian Nursing University set to train 400 students annually. Both are scheduled to open in 2027.

A thanksgiving event held at the Kasangati construction site brought together over 500 guests—including local leaders, health professionals, and families—to celebrate the progress and reaffirm Karis Medical’s mission: to deliver accessible, Karis -centered care rooted in excellence, compassion, and integrity.

Andy Agaba, Founder of Karis Medical, stated, “This is more than a construction site—it’s a foundation of hope, healing, and opportunity. Today we not only celebrate a milestone but the beginning of a national transformation in community health.”

“Karis medical is a consortium of investments in healthcare, which include the hospital, as well as Karis University, which would be a school for Health Sciences and nursing that we’re going to begin constructing in a Few weeks from now. So So essentially, we are a healthcare investor. We believe in getting affordable and accessible care to our people and, I mean our citizens in this country, and that’s why we are building these facilities in the neighborhood and not choosing the city center,” he noted.

“I would say that north of the bypass is very under invested when it comes to healthcare, and we think that we have a role to play in that, and our answer is Karis Medical hospital. This is one of so many that we have in plan, And the beauty about Karis medical hospital is like, this is by Ugandans and for Ugandans so this is not some foreign investors. This is our local people, grown here, born here, raised here that are investing back into our communities,” he emphasized

He added that, “our plans are very, very ambitious. We’re are not only  thinking about Kampala, we’re thinking about the entire country, maybe one day Karis will become the largest healthcare provider outside of government, that’s how we are thinking. Our small steps is the first clinic, the first medical center we’ve opened today. But our dreams are far bigger than than what we’ve just done.”

Community Impact

The development of these facilities is anticipated to significantly improve healthcare delivery in the region. By expanding access to specialized maternal and child health services and providing advanced nursing education, Karis Medical aims to address critical gaps in the healthcare system, reduce the burden on existing facilities, and contribute to the overall health and well-being of the community.
