LUWERO– Workers and Patients at Mutima Medical Center in Luwero district can now breathe a sigh of relief following the donation of solar equipment from sun king solar Uganda to enhance lighting at the facility.

Located on the outskirts of Luwero town, the privately owned facility is known for offering affordable yet quality medical service to residents in the area. Though connected to the national grid, the facility has for long suffered the consequence of the unstable and unreliable power supply in the area. This has not only affected business but it also puts the lives of both patients and doctors at risk.

Bannet Tumuranzye the in-charge at Mutima medical clinic reveals that everytime there is a power outage in the area, they are left in the darkness and everything comes to a standstill.

“We have been having challenges with the electricity which is usually on and off, this slows down our work and there are times we go for days without work simply because power is off”, Tumuranzye narrates.

Sun King staff during a visit to Mutima medical clinic where they donated solar equipment

“Although we are supposed to be open 24hours a day, when the power is off we are forced to close since we cannot attend to patients in darkness, ” he adds.

Jeremiah Kateregga, a laboratory technician at the facility also recounts the numerous times they have failed to run tests simply because there is no power.

“Usually, when patients come, we get samples from them and the test results are expected to be out in the shortest time possible, however, when there is no power these tests delay which greatly affects our work”, he explains.

Luckily the medical center has received a donation of solar equipment for sun king Uganda to boost its lighting and overall service to the residents.

The donation is part of the company’s social responsibility aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable communities

Florence Nantongo, the human resource manager at Sun King solar Uganda explains that the facility has been equipped with a solar kit capable of lighting at least five rooms. This has been properly installed is fully operational

” Mutima medical center has been serving the community from morning to 10:00 P.M. however ther major challenge has been the constant power blackouts, therefore donating this solar has been a huge blessing to the facility. From now on, they will be able to attend to their patients throughout the night and also freely conduct their lab tests”, Nantongo explains.

Florence Nantongo the human resources manager of Sunking Uganda shakes hands with Isaac Wampamba, the Butuntumula Sub country councillor during the reopening of Sunking branch shop in Kasana-Luwero town.

The company also opened its branch offices in Kasana-Luwero town to enable locals access affordable and quality solar solutions.

Local leaders have commended the company for the initiative believing it will spur more growth in the area.

Isaac Wampamba, the councillor of Butuntumula sub-county explains that the establishment of a Sun King branch in the area is an answer to their demands for reliable and stable power supply.

“Luwero town is one of those towns suffering from the unreliable power supply and the only solution would be solar, i’m glad we now have a fully stocked sun king shop in our area, i believe our residents can now get solar equipment at affordable prices.” he explains.
