The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has officially launched a new campaign dubbed “Wetereze” to give the public an opportunity to regularize their electricity connections.
The initiative targets three key categories of users including: those who have been bypassing electricity meters, individuals illegally tapping into the grid, and customers whose meters were retrieved under the old system but were never replaced, forcing many to rely on direct, and unsafe, power supply.
Jonan Kiiza, Head of Corporate and Stakeholder Affairs at UEDCL, said the campaign aims to resolve these longstanding issues and ensure that all Ugandans have safe and legal access to electricity.
“This window is open until September 30, 2025, at 5:00pm,” Kiiza announced.
He noted after that, anyone who has not normalized their connection will face legal action, because they would have done everything possible to create a simple process, and must enforce the law.
Kiiza emphasized that the regularization process is completely free of charge.
“Let no Ugandan be asked to pay any money for a meter or related services. The shareholders have supported this initiative to ensure every Ugandan accesses electricity safely,” he said.
To participate in the Wetereze campaign, customers can visit their nearest UEDCL office or go online via www.uedcl.co.ug/weterezeeee to fill out the application form using their phone or any internet-connected device.
“We are encouraging everyone to take advantage of this grace period. Whether you walk into an office or use your phone, we will serve you without interruption,” Kiiza assured.
The campaign marks a significant step in UEDCL’s efforts to curb power theft, improve safety, and promote responsible electricity use across the country.
