The Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, conducted an inspection of the preparations for the independence parade in Busia in anticipation of the 62nd Independence Day celebrations.
The event is scheduled to be held at Busikho Teachers Demonstration Primary School, located in the border district.
Uganda gained its Independence on October 9, 1962.
Kainerugaba expressed his gratitude to the parade participants for their dedication, particularly in integrating new elements into the marching routines and military songs.
He commended the band for their proficiency in performing the songs and urged them to uphold their high standards.
He underscored his commitment to excellence and highlighted the significance of maintaining orderliness during the parade.
He was accompanied by local Members of Parliament, community leaders, Major Gen. Don Nabasa (3rd Division Commander), and senior officials from the military, security forces, prisons, and Uganda Police.
President Yoweri Museveni is anticipated to officiate at the 62nd independence anniversary celebrations.

This year’s theme for the event is “A Re-commitment to Secure and Fortify Destiny.”
40 to be honored
The government revealed that a total of 40 individuals, including five women, will receive a range of national honors during the upcoming event.
Among the awards, 30 recipients will be presented with the National Independence Medal (diamond), while three individuals will earn the Luweero Triangle Medal and other three will receive the Masaba Medal.
Additionally, four people will be honored with the Long-serving Gold Police Medal, one individual will be recognized with the Personal Sacrifice Medal for Police, and one medal will be awarded to a meritorious individual.
The selection of these individuals was carried out by the Chancery and received the President’s approval.
