LUWERO: Police in Luwero District are investigating a fatal road crash that claimed three lives and left eight others injured.
The accident occurred on March 20, 2026, at 11.30am in Nkonde Village, Nyimbwa Sub-county, along the Kampala–Gulu Highway.
The crash involved two motor vehicles: a white Toyota Hiace (registration number UBR 333S) and a white Tata lorry (registration number UBG 873K), both driven by unidentified drivers.
According to preliminary reports, the Toyota Hiace was carrying passengers from Kampala to Amolatar District.
Eight male passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital and Kasana Luwero Hospital for treatment.
The three deceased, all unidentified male passengers aboard the Toyota Hiace, died instantly at the scene.
Police allege that the Tata lorry, which was loaded with poles and traveling from Luwero towards Kampala, attempted to overtake a long queue of vehicles at Nkonde in Kalule, Nyimbwa Sub-county. The maneuver reportedly resulted in a head-on collision with the oncoming Toyota Hiace.
The Savannah Regional Police spokesperson, Sam Twinemazima, confirmed that officers visited and documented the scene. The bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Luwero Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
Investigations into the exact cause of the crash are ongoing.
Police have urged motorists to exercise caution while using the Kampala–Gulu Highway, particularly during overtaking, and to strictly observe speed limits and road safety regulations.
